The Contargo Beteiligungs GmbH has acquired a ten percent share in the Lille Dourges Conteneur Terminal SAS (LDCT) in France. The LDCT has operated the terminal in Dourges, northern France, since 2003. With this investment Contargo aims to reach new customers, offer existing customers an improved service and further expand its presence in France.
With this participation in France’s biggest hinterland terminal, we are securing capacities for barge handling, and at the same time creating possibilities for rail handling in northern France. The terminal is also a hub between the western seaports and southern Europe.
The container terminal in Dourges, near Lille, is only 40 kilometres distant on the map from Contargo’s existing terminal in Bruay-sur-l'Escaut. It is part of a 300-hectare dedicated logistics site marketed by the port authority Delta 3.
In the rail area the 60-hectare terminal has seven rail sidings, each about 750 metres long, served by four portal cranes. The depot for full and empty containers has room for about 2,500 TEU. At the 500-metre-long quay, 250 metres are served by an additional crane.
Here approximately 125,000 containers are transhipped yearly from one transport mode to another, representing an annual handling volume of 450,000 TEU. Around 90 percent of the containers are transferred from rail to road and vice versa.
