First fully-electric last-mile container transport between Bavaria and Bohemia

In close cooperation with Contargo Combitrac and Tchibo, JCL Logistics is starting the first fully-electric local container transport between Hof (Bavaria) and Cheb (Bohemia).

In July Contargo Combitrac in Hof put four heavy-duty e-trucks into operation. Since the beginning of August, two of these 40-tonners have been operating on a test run for customer JCL Logistics. The route, approximately 50 kilometres long, between the terminal in Hof (D) and Cheb (CZ) is an important element in the supply chain for Tchibo’s non-food articles. JCL Logistics is responsible for the organisation and control of the whole transport chain. For three years now the enterprise has been using environmentally friendly rail to transport the 45-foot containers, with three electric trains weekly running between Bremen and Hof or Regensburg.

In Hof the transhipment onto trucks is performed by Contargo Combitrac, with two of the previously used diesel trucks replaced by e-trucks. The vehicles are two Volvo FH Electric trucks with a horsepower output of 666 PS and a range of up to 300 kilometres, ensuring that around 50 percent of the trips on this route are carried out in an eco-friendly way. The aim is to switch this run entirely to electrically-powered vehicles in the near future.
