High Water Update

On the Upper Rhine, the water level at the Maxau Gauge peaked on Sunday afternoon at 8.29 m, one of the highest levels in 5 years. On Tuesday, the Worms Gauge on the Upper Rhine is expected to reach levels approximating to a 10-year high.

Possible closures:

Kaub (section between Lorch – Bad Salzig) – Closure from 04.06, beginning 00:00-12:00 midday

Mainz (section between Gernsheim – Eltville) – Closure from 03.06, beginning approx. 21:00-03:00

Closures:

Worms (section between Ludwigshafen– Gernsheim) – Closed from 02.06, 08:00 am. Closure will remain in place until approx. 05.06*

Mannheim (section between Mannheim-Rheinau – Mannheim-Sandhofen) – Closed from 03.06, 02:00 am. Closure will remain in place until approx. 05.06*

Maxau (section between Iffezheim – Germersheim) – Closed from 01.06, 16:45 pm. Closure will remain in place until approx. 06.06*

*Due to the changing dynamics and uncertainties of the rain forecast, no reliable predictions regarding peak water levels (maximum water levels to be expected in this high water episode) can be calculated at present for many gauges covered by the forecasts of the Flood Forecasting Centre (HVZ).

  • 394670 – Contargo I – at present in Breisach am Rhein (downstream trip)

Rhine/Neckar (Middle Rhine)

  • 393327 – Cugini – at present in Cologne (Import Wörth / Karlsruhe) (upstream trip)
  • 393419 – Millennium – at present in Ludwigshafen (Export Tuesday)
  • 394338 – Metropolis – at present in destination port Ludwigshafen. Worms and Koblenz still on board (Koblenz (26x) not unloaded due to crane defect and will be unloaded on downstream trip)
  • xxxxxxx – Napoli – at present in Ludwigshafen (empty)
  • 394449  – Ardito I+II – at present in Mannheim (Import Wörth / Karlsruhe) (upstream trip)

Rhine/Main

  • 393602 – Stolzeneck – at present in Sankt Goar (Import Frankfurt) (upstream trip) – will probably continue to its port of destination.
  • 394400 – Dilsberg – at present in Mainz (Import Frankfurt) (upstream trip) – will probably continue to its port of destination.
  • 393572 – Trifels – at present in Frankfurt Osthafen (Export Monday)
