Due to substantial precipitation in the catchment area of the Middle Rhine tributaries, their water levels rose to the level of a 2-year flood on Tuesday and are expected to continue rising. Consequently, a flood wave in the Rhine will also be fueled by the inflows from the Nahe, Lahn, Moselle, and Sieg rivers.
The Koblenz water level has exceeded the High Water Mark 2. The stretch between Bad Salzig and Engers was closed at 3:00 a.m. tonight.
Water levels above the Moselle confluence are also on the rise. At the Bingen gauge, water levels are expected to range between 425 and 445 cm, and at the Kaub gauge, between 535 and 545 cm.
Information for shipping:
In the area of the Bingen gauge, Navigation High Water Mark I has already been exceeded.
In the regions of the Andernach, Oberwinter, and Cologne gauges, the exceeding of Navigation High Water Mark I is expected during the day.
At the Duisburg-Ruhrort gauge, the reported height of 800 cm will soon be exceeded. According to the current forecast, a further rise in the water level to between 960 cm and 1000 cm is possible by Saturday. The clearance height of the Vinckekanaal bridge is very critical.
